It is the group of terms that a specific language contains, which are put into practice moderated by certain rules of the language. Beyond this, vocabulary is also seen as the number of words that a person uses, that is, they are those that he knows and uses correctly in everyday situations. Having a broad knowledge of words is considered a very important tool for the use of the corresponding dialect, with which it is possible to have a correct expression. The acquisition of terms begins at an early age, when the child begins to associate words with images, such as the word "mom" with the woman who is around him, takes care of him and with whom he shares an emotional bond.

According to various theories that propose new ways of teaching grammar and syntactic rules, one of the most important steps to having an extensive vocabulary is to read repeatedly, because, as it works with improving spelling, it also helps incorporate new terms, whose functions will be understood by the contexts in which it is applied, in addition to the research carried out as a resource to add a meaning to it. In the same way, having a large number of terms stored helps to have a better reading comprehension, although this does not depend much on it, but understanding the words used in the text facilitates the conclusion reached after finishing reading..

The vocabulary can be divided into two parts: active and passive. The first is characterized by being the one that contains the words that are used frequently and whose meaning is well known to the speaker. However, the passive is one that consists of terms that are not used by the speaker very often, because they do not objectively know their meaning and the contexts in which they can be used.
