What is an economic zone? »Its definition and meaning

The name "economic zone" refers to the extension of the sea belonging to each country, which must carry an approximate number of 200 miles (approximately 380 kilometers); This area is called this way because it was stated that any nation that owns said territory has the right to exploit all the resources found in said extension (with the aforementioned boundary points), the resources that can be exploited are all those that are mineral or natural. This law was determined according to the execution of the III Conference of the United Nationswhere they touched on the subject of the economy from the maritime extension; specifically articles 56 and 75 are those that establish that: the economic zone corresponds to the maritime territory and close to it, by which it will be governed by the mandates of the nation to which they belong.

The region that has the possibility of enjoying the opportunity to have an economic zone is known as a “ coastal state ” and must meet some requirements, which are:

1. He must have the right to sovereignty for the exploitation, exploration, administration and conservation of all natural resources found in said territory (whether they are living or non-living assets); This applies to the waters above the bed of the birth n and the territory where the maritime subsoil is. With the intention of carrying out exploitation for economic purposes for each state, such as the production of energy from air and water currents.
2. Authority for the employment of construction of artificial islands or any structure, installation within this maritime extension; as well as they must also comply with the preservation and protection of the maritime portion that they possess.
3. Compliance with the rest of the duties and rights that are listed in the aforementioned convention; of course they are related to the maritime territory, covering: surface, depth, soil and subsoil as well as mineral, plant resources and other living or non-living organisms found in the previously defined delimitation.

It is also important to mention that in these portions of the sea, the state has free will for the installation of pipes and wiring, as well as the freedom to navigate on the surface.
