Instagram is now safer
After the latest news of the theft of Instagram accounts, the social network has gotten down to work to improve security.
To do this, they have greatly improved their verification system in two steps and in the verified account request. It was already safe in itself, but these are not good times for the fashionable social network. More and more users report that their account has been stolen.
That is why the improvement in the issue of two-step authentication is already being implemented. Below we will tell you how they have done it.
Your Instagram account safer than ever:
If you have two-step verification configured, which we recommend you do NOW!!!, you'll know that until now it was done via SMS. This was sent to your number that you had linked to your account. This message contained a code that you had to enter to verify that you are in possession of your mobile and, therefore, you are the owner of your account and can easily access it.
The new way of security is to support verification apps in which this code is received, instead of using an SMS. This is much more secure than sending the SMS. Nowadays, duplicating a SIM card is very simple and allows anyone with bad intentions to take over the Instagram account of whoever they want.
Instagram Authenticator App
We will soon be able to use third-party authenticator apps to log into our Instagram account. This form of two-factor authentication makes it easier and safer for everyone to log in securely.
Activate the new two-factor authentication process:
To make verification messages reach that application, we will have to enter the settings within the Instagram app.
New way to authenticate on Instagram
There, in the two-step authentication section, we will find the App authentication option , which we can activate. Instagram will find the authenticator App you have installed and send the code to that app.
If you can't find any of the supported Apps for this service, Instagram will take you to the App Store. There you should download them.
Support for third-party authenticator apps has begun rolling out and will be available to the global community in the coming weeks.
