Twitter has notified US regulatory authorities of a failure in their systems. This has compromised the keys of all its users. The company recommends everyone to change the password.
Apparently, the bug has been in operation for several months and was discovered a few weeks ago by its engineers.
The error occurred during the hashing process of the keys before they were stored in the database. A programming error caused them to be written to some of the internal operations records.
But everything is already corrected. Twitter states that everything is fixed and that the technical error no longer occurs. It also clarifies that there are no indications that these data have been stolen by third parties or misused by platform workers. But, to be on the safe side, it advises all users to change passwords.
We recently found a bug that stored passwords unmasked in an internal log. We fixed the bug and have no indication of a breach or misuse by anyone. As a precaution, consider changing your password on all services where you've used this password. https://t.co/RyEDvQOTaZ
