With everything that has happened with Facebook and the Cambridge Analytics scandal and the arrival of the new data protection law, many companies are changing the terms of use.
I'm sure that even if you don't know what any of this is about, you've noticed that many companies, applications and services ask you to accept their terms of use again.
WhatsApp modifies its terms of service
Surely these days you have been receiving emails asking you to subscribe again, or when entering an application they have made you accept the conditions of use again.
Well WhatsApp modifies its terms of service, too.
The new law enters into force on May 25. And it seems that all companies have waited until the end to adapt to the new law.
Minimum age in the European Union 16 years
One of the modifications made is the minimum age to use the messaging service.
Currently, if you download the application and accept the terms of use, you assume that you are 16 years old. If you are in the European Union. Or 13 years, if they are in any other country.
What if you're not 16 and want to use WhatsApp?
Don't panic. Your parent or guardian can accept the terms of use for you.
And then, you can continue to use the application properly.
Nothing, no information is shared with Facebook
After the scandals that occurred, and the fines received, those from Zuckerberg want us to trust them again.
This measure is intended to prevent misuse of the application by third parties.
If this were to happen, WhatsApp would apply drastic measures by blocking the service of both the messaging application and Facebook of the person causing the damage.
Information collected
This new feature has not yet entered into force, but we think it will be soon in a future update.
Anyway, we'll explain to you with a little advance, what it consists of.
You can claim from WhatsApp a report with the information it has collected about you.
You can request it within the same application within Settings> Accounts.
And within three days you will receive it.
Furthermore, you can object to the processing of your data by sending an email to WhatsApp. The technical team will review the requested objection and reply with the verdict.
What do you think of all these news? Will we be more protected as users?
