Limited units and prohibitive prices for the next iPhone 8 or X?

There is great anticipation building regarding the iPhone special that may be unveiled alongside the 7s and 7s Plus. Rumors come constantly, many contradicting each other, and now it is speculated that this special edition iPhone could arrive in limited units and have an excessively high price, starting at €1,500.

Let's start with the limited units. If we pay attention to the latest rumors the next iPhone 8 or X would break the design continuity started with the iPhone 6s, minimizing the frames to have a full-screen front and with some finishes aluminum and glass.

If this iPhone, as anticipated, were introduced with the 7s and 7s Plus in the 10th anniversary year of the iPhone with that design, it would be a special edition and it would make sense for units to be limited.

IT IS PRETTY UNLIKELY THAT WITH THE NEXT IPHONE 8 OR X, APPLE WILL MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS WITH THE GOLDEN WATCH EDITION

That the limitation of units is possible leads us to the price of this hypothetical iPhone. It would make sense for a special, limited edition to be priced to make it exclusive, but this is where we run into trouble. Apple has already introduced a special edition of a product that was anything but a success: the Watch Edition.

The gold Apple Watch Edition was presented as a limited and exclusive edition with prohibitive prices ranging between €11,000 and €23,000 and, except for a few celebrities, this special edition was poorly received.

Such was the case that a year and a half after its presentation, Apple replaced it with the ceramic Edition, with a price of €1,519, the most expensive model. Despite this, this ceramic Watch did not seem to be very successful either and there is currently more than enough stock.

Leaving aside the special edition of the Apple Watch, which is a different product from the smartphone, we have the competitors of the iPhone. Among them we can highlight the Samsung devices, as well as the LG G6 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix.

THAT THE NEXT IPHONE 8 OR X COSTS MUCH MORE THAN ITS DIRECT COMPETITORS MAY NOT BE IN THE BEST FOR APPLE

From Samsung, and without taking into account the curved screen of the S7 Edge, we have Galaxy S8, which has an infinite screen with hardly any borders. The Galaxy S8 also has a design and specifications that have nothing to envy to the iPhone, and is priced very similar to previous terminals from the South Korean brand, with the S8 being €809 and the S8 Plus €909.

LG has also signed up for (almost) infinite screens with its G6, which with some good features had a launch price of €749, which makes it a great option if we are looking for a great Android device that be all screen.

But, without a doubt, the smartphone that opened the ban on infinite screens was the Mi Mix by Xiaomi which, with a 6.4″ screen that occupies 91% of the front, 128 GB 4GB of RAM, 16 MPX camera among other features, it is priced at €475 and €542 for the Mi Mix 18K.

As we can see, smartphones comparable to the iPhone with great features and that have an infinite or borderless screen, which seems to be the star redesign of the next iPhone 8 or X, have maintained their prices and have even enhanced in views of the features and specifications they offer.

All this makes us think that, although it is possible that this hypothetical iPhone will arrive in limited units, its initial price will not be €1,500 since it would make it impossible for many users of Apple products to purchase it which, after all, are the ones that generate benefits for them.
