Democratic Action is one of the most traditional political parties in the country, its main founders were Rómulo Gallegos and Rómulo Betancourt on September 13, 1941, its ideals are based on social democracy or social democracy, popularly known as the white party.
In its beginnings, democratic action was characterized by being a left-wing socialist party, which defended nationalism, polyclassism, progressivism and anti- imperialism, although since the 1980s it has followed more measured center-left social democratic principles, discarding the statism and incorporating more pluralistic ideals.
Democratic Action has been a political party that had always been in power, from 1945 to 1998, it was the heart of the country's political life.
During the time it had to send the Democratic Action party in Venezuela, OPEC (Organization of Oil Exporting Countries) was created, there was agrarian reform, the ince was founded, the electrification of the country was established, and the country was nationalized, etc..
This political party was a very popular party, its main struggle was to assert the rights of the people, it obtained many achievements, greatly benefiting the country, however with the passage of time its bases were weakening, divisions and power struggles arose. The last Adeco president that Venezuela had was Carlos Andrés Pérez, during Pérez's first term (1974-1981) Opep was fortified and oil was nationalized, however, there was discontent within the ranks of the party, due to the numerous scandals corruption regarding the exploitation of oil, this made it possible for the party to lose adherents and consequently lose the following elections.
In 1988 Carlos Andrés Pérez won the presidential elections again, but on February 27 and 28, 1989, what was called the Caracazo occurred, a popular rebellion in which the people, tired of the economic policies applied by Pérez, revealed themselves and launched themselves to the streets protesting the high cost of living and the constant increases in basic food products and public services. The leadership of Pérez was falling within the party, and for the elections of 1993 the party no longer enjoyed credibility within the population and the chances of winning were minimal, however the second place was given to Claudio Fermínin those elections it shows that AD continues to have an inherent strength in the Venezuelan people.
By 1997, many mistakes were made within the party which led to the defeat of its candidate and the victory of Hugo Chávez.
From then on AD has gone from defeat to defeat, however its multi-class and popular nature has been the key to its survival and that despite everything it has a militancy that is still faithful to it and that continues to fight for Venezuela to find its way. right, the way of Peace and prosperity.
