What is lost adolescence? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

In life, human beings go through different phases or cycles, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. In each of them, the man learns something new that helps him in his maturation process. Of the aforementioned stages, adolescence has been one of the most important, since in this phase the person presents many changes, especially at the level of identity.

The young person or young adolescent, unlike children, tends to withdraw a bit from their parents, because in this way they can emphasize their own point of view, defend their convictions and live independently. Although he is not yet ready enough, at the level of maturity, to be completely free.

At this stage, young people greatly need the protection and care of their parents; however, they must constantly face an internal battle between respect for the authority figure and the desire for freedom. This is why the adolescent seeks the support of his friends and with whom he is totally identified.

Although it is believed that adolescence is the happiest stage of the person, it is also true that during it, many young people go through hard times, they usually go through identity crises, physical complexes appear, they feel pressure at an academic level, they do not have very clear what they want for their future, etc.

But what does "lost adolescence" really mean? Well, it cannot be said that adolescence was a lost stage, because it must be remembered that each cycle through which a person passes, leaves him an experience and therefore a learning. Now, it can be said then that a person loses his adolescence, when due to life circumstances, he must assume another role different from the one that corresponds to him. For example, when a young woman's parents die and she has to take care of her younger brothers. It may seem like a story out of some pink soap opera, but it can happen. The truth is that in this supposed case, the young woman will have to assume the role of an adult and work to be able to to support herself and her siblings, thus missing her adolescence.

Another very frequent case occurs when the young woman becomes pregnant, this being a radical change that will modify her entire life, since it implies having to take care of another being and assume adult responsibilities, ahead of time. This has been one of the most common cases in today's society. Even in the cinema, a film was screened that touches on the issue of pregnancies, in young people in full adolescence and that is called “Lost Adolescence”.

These examples reflect, how at certain times, adolescents for various reasons, lose certain practices, typical of their age, to assume others very different from their stage, however adolescence is not lost as such, since from everything they have always experienced something positive will be obtained and that is what should really be valued.
