What is armageddon? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The word Armageddon is a biblical term that appears in the book of the Apocalypse of Christian literature, referring to the place where the final battle will take place, the place where the armies of the earth will gather to wage war, guided by the devil, against God and his army of angels and where finally God will be the victor. This according to what is written in the Christian biblical text. The word Armageddon comes from a Hebrew expression "Har Megiddo" which means "Mount Megiddo" and although this place is not mentioned in any quotation in the Bible, it is said to be located south of Nazareth.

In the bible, in the book of revelations or Revelation 16: 14-16, it says the following: “For they are spirits of demons, who make signs and go to the kings of the earth throughout the world, to gather them to battle of that great day of Almighty God. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he who watches and keeps his clothes, lest he walk naked and they see his shame. And he gathered them in the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon ”.

For other religions Armageddon is not a place but an event. Since the site where such a battle is supposed to take place is very small for the magnitude of the armies that will fight there. The truth is that Armageddon will be the ecumenical event where all nations unite in a final confrontation against God.

No one can predict when this battle will take place, since Jesus said so in Matthew 24: 21-36 "Regarding that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the son, but only the father.".
