What is self-taught? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

A person who has started in one or more fields of study on his own is called self-taught. This means that the entire research and practice process is carried out in complete solitude, manifesting a great capacity for self-reflection. Some of the most important artists and scientists of all time, such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Sigmund Freud, dedicated much of their lives to learning various disciplines without using a professional to teach them about it.

However, self-learning can not only be found in those situations where knowledge about a specific topic begins, but is also present in small daily activities, such as learning to use old makeup techniques. In the learning process, three different elements can be taken into account, such as the object to be learned to use, the place where the practice will take place and the series of exercises that would give the final touch to everything.

It has been considered for a long time that self-learning can result in human beings with many more benefits than those obtained by receiving a conventional education, as it encourages the practitioner to explore many more fields or topics and helps them improve the cognitive process in general. However, this does not mean that the self-taught can receive, as would be the case in most cases, a degree or some kind of validity in the social and work environment. Today, there are many more tools with which you can acquire various knowledge.
