What is brain? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The brain is an organ located inside the skull, that is, the head, and it is a highly complex system, the functioning of which has not yet been fully deciphered; It comprises a broad system, which includes the entire nervous system and control over it. The term comes from the Latin “cerebrum” , which means what is worn on the head.

Its location is very close to all the organs that are also located in the head, such as the visual, auditory and taste apparatus. Some living beings do not have a brain, because they totally lack a nervous system; however, some do, but it is not very developed.

Its exact function as an organ is to control each of the functions carried out by the body, whether voluntary or involuntary, among which is muscle contractions and chemical reactions to stimuli, in addition to storing all the information from the environment. However, it is not so perfect, since it makes some mistakes and is easily fooled by tricks that it tries to see from the most logical point, which would not be the correct one in those situations.

In human beings, the brain has an average of 15 and 33 billion neurons, which continuously transmit information from one to the other; Each area of the organ is dedicated to a specific function. They work by carrying electrical impulses to certain areas of the body or the nervous system, in response to a stimulus that comes from outside. Likewise, the brain is the deposit of the mind, where ideas are generated and emotions begin to be felt, which is why it is considered a very important part of the intellectual functioning of living beings.
