Compound is the irregular participle of the verb compose, that is, fixed or repaired. It is a word that comes from the Latin of the voice "composustus" which is formed from the prefix "com" which means "next to" and "positus" participle of the verbal voice "put" which means to put. Composite generally refers to something in particular that is made up of different parts or elements; for example, it may be a substance that is formed after the union of two or more elements or ingredients. It is in the chemical field where a common use is given to the word to describe a chemical compound that is, as already said, a substance formed by the fusion of two or more elements of the periodic table. It should be noted that the compounds cannot be separated by purely scientific methods but only by chemical reactions

An example of the above is water, which is composed of oxygen and hydrogen; another is methane and acetylene, which are made up of hydrogen in different proportions and carbon. Each compound has a fixed composition, this means that a particular compound will always contain the same elements with the same percentages by mass.

Another use of the compound word is extracted from grammar, where it adapts to the words that are formed with the union of two or more words or terms that already exist in a language, such words as pencil sharpener, can opener, basketball, puzzle, bittersweet, ups and downs etc.

In botany, dicotyledonous plants, herbs, angiosperms, shrubs and some trees are called compound that differ due to their simple leaves and their flowers; like for example the artichoke, the dahlia among others.
