Is the name given to a computer program, whose primary objective is to serve as a tool to allow the exchange of files of type P2P using the eDonkey 2000 and the Kad network protocol. eMule is used as a special free software for the Windows Operating System. The idea of this program emerged as an alternative to eDonkey, but shortly after its launch, its performance was such as well as the fact that it was free, that P2P users adopted it as their favorite.
In 2002, the project was started by Hendrik Breikreuz, later he was joined by 7 software developers. The source code of the program was published in July of that same year and its first version in binary in August and in December its website was launched, since which time there have been billions of downloads, its latest version was launched in 2010 although in 2015 another one was launched but it was only a test.
The main functional feature of eMule is its ability to allow the exchange of files between the users of the program, in addition to facilitating the repair of parts of files that are damaged, a credit mode is used based on the amount of uploads that the users make the network and the greater the number of uploaded files, the greater the number of downloaded files. The credits can increase and as that happens the waiting time of the users will be less, the credits are registered in a decentralized way, in order to avoid being plagiarized.
To download a file, the user must first proceed to download the parts of a file, which after completing all the parts will be joined to form said complete file, this is very useful when the files to be downloaded are large, an advantage that eMule has is the ease of obtaining files that are very rare to find on the network, it is for all these characteristics that users who choose to share files use it as their favorite.
