A Euphemism is a word or expression that is used to replace another that could be vulgar or inappropriate for certain people or events. The etymology of this term is Greek, it comes from a combination: "Eu" which means "Good" and "Pheme" which is "Speak". In ancient times, the "Eupheme" were expressions that were said not to violate the religious beliefs of some people. Being then the idea of substituting one unhealthy word for another, we have to say that Euphemism is a linguistic tool to avoid blasphemy.
The euphemisms are many, the mere fact of comparing one object with another to avoid saying a vulgarity can be considered as such. The euphemisms are used in social spaces where there are rules of civil behavior that prohibit all that bad vocabulary or expression that can be considered rude.
Euphemisms are both to avoid being vulgar and to be political and neutral in a given situation. An expression that could offend someone by racism can be a euphemism, example: Instead of calling someone “Black” because of their skin tone or origin, they can be marked as “ Black or African American”. To be delicate in some matters that merit some measure when referring to these events, for example: it is better to say that "Pregnancy was interrupted" than "Abortion".
Euphemisms can also be used to cover realities from a context, that is, people instead of saying what they want to say, use rhetoric and similar words to hide a reality. In politics, when a ruler wants to demonstrate an opposite position to a counterpart, he constantly performs euphemisms, making comparisons of the actions he takes with the truths that he really wants to denote. In general, the written press is in charge of giving the correct topic to the speeches that, however communicative they pretend to be, must be political, subject to a line of dialogue and intervention.
