In computing, it is called FTP (File Transfer Protocol or File Transfer Protocol), to the series of rules on the transfer of files that occurs through a system connected to the TCP or Transmission Control Protocol, which allows the sending of files without errors. This is based on the client-server architecture; a model in which various tasks are shared between the server and the client. It was designed to provide high-speed file sharing; although not much security, since all operations are carried out in plain text, which allows hackers to have access to the transferred data.
This was one of the first protocols defined (even before TCP / IP existed), being used for the first time in 1971. This went through a series of modifications until, in 1985, they finally established the format to be used. it has used RFC 959 to this day. The FTP process begins with the user's PI or Protocol Interpreter, which will generate the start order; then the response will be sent from the server's PI to the user's PI. Certain transfer parameters are established (store, delete, retrieve, among others), so that the user's DTP data transfer process can establish a connection with port 20, so that the data transfer can take place.
With the creation of this protocol, the first search engine, called Gopher, was also known. This worked in a system of interconnected machines, its main function being to find certain files, based on their name. Each machine was intended for a specific information area, but the organization that Gopher provided made it appear that they were actually all on just one machine. However, with the advent of the internet, it fell into disuse.
