Gas is a chemical term that refers to the state of aggregation of matter, which lacks shape and volume, this is due to the way it is composed, since it is made up of molecules that are not united, propagated and with a minimum force of attraction between them, accommodating the shape and volume of the container that contains it. Because the molecules that make up the gas are not attracted to each other, they can move in a vacuum separately and very quickly, thus expressing their properties.
Gas particles are completely free, so they can spread throughout the space where they are enclosed. They can also occupy the entire space of the container that contains it, they are not shaped and can be effortlessly compressed.
The creator of this term was the chemist Jan Baptist van Helmont, considered the father of pneumatic chemistry, he was the first to use the word gas to determine the properties of carbon dioxide, much later this concept was attributed to all gaseous bodies It is also used to name a state of matter. The origin of the nature of gas is located in its particles, autonomous from each other and rotating randomly with each other. On the other hand, if the gas is subjected to very low temperatures it can turn into a liquid, this procedure is called condensation.
There is a type of gas that is widely named and used by humans and it is natural gas, this kind of gas is the result of the combination of vapors normally found in fossil deposits, it is made up of methane in a proportion that it does not exceed 90 or 95%, the rest is the sum of other gases such as butane, nitrogen, among others.
Natural gas is used by many families as a heating mechanism and also to cook food. It is considered less harmful to the environment compared to oil and coal, since it does not produce a large amount of carbon dioxide.
