A bank draft or cashier's check is a payment on behalf of a payer that is guaranteed by the issuing bank. A draft guarantees the beneficiary a secure form of payment. During the payer reconciliation of your bank account, you notice a decrease in the account balance due to money withdrawn from the account.
Obtaining a bank draft requires the deposit of funds equal to the amount of the check and the applicable fees with the issuing bank. The bank creates a check for the payee on the bank's own account. The sender's name is noted on the check, but the bank is the entity that makes the payment. A teller or bank officer signs the check.
Because the money is drawn and issued by a bank, a bank draft guarantees the availability of the underlying funds. Buyers or sellers make or demand payments through bank drafts as a secure method of payment.
A bank check and money order are prepaid, with a specified and printed amount. Each is considered a secure payment method from a third party institution. The payer does not need to carry large amounts of money when using a bank check or money order. However, a cashier's check is a check drawn from a bank's funds after accepting the amount from the issuer's account, while cash is used when purchasing a money order. For this reason, a money order is more secure than a bank check.
