What is the 6 day war? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The six-day war was the military confrontation that the nation of Israel had with the coalition of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Syria. Also called the June 1967 war, it began on June 5 and ends on June 10 of that same year. It could be said that the cause of this war was due to the existing discontent among the Arab countries was due to the bad sentences of previous conflicts.

The discontent begins when after the end of the Second World War, Israel is forced to settle in the area of the Gaza Strip, as compensation for the crimes suffered by Jews at the hands of the Nazis. However, in order to establish Israel, it had to rearrange the countries that were already established in that area, an action that was not well seen by the countries found there.

The conflict began when Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran, an action that disadvantaged Israel territorially, politically and economically. While it is true that this nation was not in favor of military action, it ended up understanding that the advance of Egypt and the strengthening of the Arab alliance, left it no other way out, if it wished to preserve its sovereignty over the won areas.

Israel was forced to win this war since otherwise it would mean the disappearance of the Israeli State, a product of its small territorial extension. So the only possible strategy was to attack.

Israel began by attacking the Egyptian air force, thus initiating the 6-day war. The Israeli state anticipated the imminent Egyptian attack, using strategies such as "Blitzkrieg" or lightning war, quickly attacking the rival side with tanks and troops, thus preventing the rival side from positioning itself to fight.

This war resulted in Israel's resounding victory over the Arab alliance, mainly because Israel had the political and military support of the United States. The war ended on June 10, 1967, when the countries of the Arab alliance decided to withdraw, since they had no hope of winning and also because they had been left without economic power and with many military casualties. Once the war ended and after the peace agreements, the Israeli state was granted the territories of the aggressor countries, such as: the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights.
