The term "Hamas" comes from Arabic roots and according to various sources it means "fervor" or "enthusiasm", described as the acronyms of the expression "Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyya" which in our language is known as the " Islamic Resistance Movement ”. Hamas is a radical Palestinian Muslim organization that also declares itself to be a jihadist and nationalist, it is based on political and militant powers; And it is because of these militant activities that the organization has taken on a certain boom, including acts of terrorism such as suicide bombings, however the role of Hamas in the Palestinian Authority and the different occupied territories is actually much more complex.
The main objective of Hamas is the elimination of the State of Israel; as stated in the functional letter issued by this organization on August 18, 1988, stating that their object is to establish an Islamic state in the Palestinian territory, which includes what is known today as Israel, the West Bank and the Strip. of Gaza, with capital in Jerusalem. To carry out this task, Hamas relies on various dependent organizations that carry out or carry out their activities in the different territories they occupy, which are activities of cultural and religious assimilation regarding young people through their madrassas, a name given in Arab culture to any type of school, in addition to the help of Palestinians with different needs and their families, representation in Palestinian political entities through the Change and Reform list, among others. Because of these and many other activities carried out by this organization, people and organizations around the world tend to classify it as an anti-Semitic group.
The organization was founded in 1987 as a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, a Sunni Muslim organization based in Egypt. From the beginning, the founders of Hamas were very clear about the organization's goals, and by early 2008, the organization had at least 1,000 active members, along with large numbers of supporters, including Palestinian expatriates around the world. Territories such as the United States, Australia, Canada, Israel and the European Union qualify the Hamas group as a terrorist organization; while other nations like Russia, Turkey and some Arab countries do not qualify it this way.
