Holistic, which comes from the word Holism, is a style that analyzes the facts from the point of view of the multiple interactions that determine them. Holism assumes that all the properties of a system cannot be determined or expressed as the sum of its components. In other words, holism assumes that the whole system behaves differently than the sum of its parts.
The term Holism was coined by JC Smuts in Holism and Evolution and it was Smuts's opinion that states that Holism is a concept that represents all the complexes of the universe, in his opinion holism also denoted a theory of the universe in the same vein as Materialism and Spiritism; for him the universe is neither matter nor spirit, but everything defined in Holism and Evolution. While offering these different definitions, Smuts made it clear that their primary and proper use was to denote the totality of sets that operate as real factors and give reality its dynamic evolutionary creative character.
Holism emphasizes the importance of the whole as something that propagates the sum of the parts, emphasizing the importance of their interdependence. It should be mentioned that holos (a Greek term that means "whole" or "whole") outlines contexts and complexities that come into relation, since it is dynamic.
For holistic knowledge, the whole and each one of the parts are linked to constant interactions. That is why each event is related to other events that produce new relationships and events in a process that compromises the whole.
The understanding of processes and situations must take place from the holos itself, since in its effectiveness a new synergy arises, new relationships are produced and new events are generated. Therefore, the set is the definitive factor, although this recognition does not prevent the analysis of each particular case.
The holistic perspective involves a progress of the paradigms to favor the figure of the syntagm, understood as an integration of paradigms. A syntagmatic attitude implies the affinity of various perspectives, which can only be achieved with holistic criteria.
