The illustration was a philosophical movement that emerged in France during the seventeenth century, its philosophy placed reason on the theocentric vision reigning during the Middle Ages. Supporters of the Enlightenment defended the idea that human knowledge was capable of combating superstition, ignorance and tyranny and thus create a different world.

The illustration generated great influence in all aspects: political, economic, scientific and social of the time. It began to expand in a part of the aristocracy through meetings in the houses of the aristocrats where ideas about politics, philosophy, science or literature were debated, the media and broadcasting of that time were also used.

The philosophers of the Enlightenment defended the idea that reason should replace all religious beliefs and mysticism, which according to them, prevented man from evolving. The man should be the focus, able to find answers to facts that, by then, was justified only through faith.

Among the characters who supported this movement were Descartes Newton, Locke, among others. The causes that originated the emergence of the illustration, are derived from the lack of a new perspective that would provide an answer to the many scientific and philosophical questions that the society of the time posed.

The enlightened philosophers opposed everything related to the monarchy, its royal lifestyle, full of luxuries and privileges that often fell into exaggeration. This is why thanks to the development of capitalism and its idea that the success of each person only depends on their abilities, as well as the flourishing of tendencies of thought supported by reason and immediate observation of reality. This movement could be heard in one of the events that revolutionized the Middle Ages: The French Revolution.

It should be noted that the illustration brought with it certain consequences, one of them was the change it caused within society. Specifically during this period the so-called estate society ended and bourgeois society emerged; a stratum that will be gaining more prominence every day at all levels, managing to occupy positions of relevance at the political level to the detriment of the reigning aristocracy at that time.
