It is a type of writing based on graphic figures from ancient times, invented by the Egyptians. It originates from two Greek words: “ἱερός” (hieros) sacred, and γλύφειν (glýphein) 'chisel, engrave'. Hieroglyphic symbols were perhaps the oldest organized writing system in the world, and one of the most important to the history of Egypt and its neighboring populations.
This archetype of writing could be visualized on the walls of temples and tombs, it had to be written in lines or columns both to the left and to the right, to identify the correct side when starting the reading, only the direction that should be displayed pointed to the figures. Over time his lines improved and changed to more cursive forms, making his lines easier to read and write, adding some important symbols of Egypt.
It should be noted that the meaning of each figure and symbol was deciphered thanks to the discovery of the Rosetta stone, which contained texts in hieroglyphic, demotic and uncial Greek writing during the year 1799. And those responsible for interpreting or deciphering these writings were the scholars Thomas Young and Jean-Francois Champollion, the latter was the one who managed to demonstrate the method of reading in 1822 with only 23 years of age.
Hieroglyphs were used for more than 3600 years by the Egyptian people. Over the years, foreign populations entered Egypt, altering and changing its ancient writing in a certain way, adding new elements and displacing the hieroglyphics.
