The word Meretriz is the one that in ancient Rome was used to define and designate those women who used their bodies as a sexual object in front of men in order to provide them with pleasure, in exchange for money, jewelry and property. A Meretriz could become the wife of a man as long as the latter pleased each and every one of his "Economic" whims without giving him anything but sex and pleasure. The prostitutes were considered part of society without any problem. The life of a prostitute was common, we can now know her as a " Prostitute"To walk and flirt with men in public squares and roads, however, with the arrival of new cultures and Greek influences, the prostitutes had to be by the representatives of the government and public security, expelled and banished to the gloomy alleys and darkness of the night.
There is another version regarding the existence of prostitutes in society, which indicates that prostitutes saw sex more as a “ fun ” hobby and not as an economic tool. Of course, the woman who starts in this field is totally single, without any kind of commitment to a man, which is why it is said that they preferred to take a life outside the ethical and moral principles of the time. That is, what differs from Roman history is the fact that they did not do it as an economic activity, but rather as pleasure, this is a behavior totally opposite to society women, who modestly lived their lives tied to a single man and forged bonds of dignitaries under the precept of fidelity to a single family complex.
Today's Meretriz has been organized in places called Prostitles, the term is not used and has been commonly replaced by prostitute, the woman who is dedicated to selling moments of sexual pleasure to men. The arrival of Christianity and its new sexual morality ended up putting both forms of women in the same bag.
