What is omnipresent? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The word omnipresence has been a synonym for ubiquitous, in which the possibility of being present in many places at the same time stands out, however, its use is directed more than anything at a theological level; the meaning of the word omnipresent can be simply identified and broken down: "omni" means everything and "present" means assistance, being in a place. According to this, this word is used in Christian belief, where it is qualified that omnipresence is a peculiarity that identifies the Almighty being or God, this is in conjunction with two other qualities such as: omniscience(absolute knowledge of everything) and omnipotence (maximum power over all things), the three being unique and exclusive qualifiers for the most powerful divine deity on earth.

The monotheistic religions (believers only in God) were in charge of keeping this idea high, so it is understood that these qualities are what give perfection to the most powerful divinity; this quality in turn is also questioned by the paradox of Epicurus, who disputes the qualities of God wondering then why, if he himself is omnipotent, omnipresent and possesses omniscience is there evil in the world ?; This is used as a defense in deist religions, because they expose that God only played an important role for the creation of the universe, but that his power could not extend further and for this reason there is evil on earth.

Separating a bit from the theological sphere, omnipresence can be applied in different spheres: at the football level, the goalkeeper who is attentive to all the plays is considered omnipresent, thus allowing the effective blocking of all the balls that go to the goal; in turn, the term is also applied in literature, where the omnipresent narrator is classified as one who knows all the characters involved in absolutely all the scenes.

In the day-to-day life of a person, the term “omnipresent” can also be applied, where it emphasizes that individual who wishes to reach all their destinations quickly; Also "omnipresent" is considered to be everything that is constantly in someone's mind, for example: "the widow has omnipresent the memory of her husband", "the birthday present of my daughter remains omnipresent", and so on.
