Oncology is a medical specialty in which the presence of neoplasms, benign and malignant tumors in the body is analyzed and studied. Generally, it is recognized much more for providing important solutions against cancer, to eradicate it from the body in which it is found. It is because of this specialty that important advances have been made with respect to this disease, giving different methods from which it can be eliminated, in addition to describing how it works, which is crucial to determine what walk to take with respect to treatment. Similarly, this important branch of medicine has promoted the study of tumors and how they form.
Basically, oncology is a science completely dedicated to cancer, taking care of the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients once the disease has been eradicated (since it can re-emerge again). It is important to make a distinction between classical and medical oncology; the medical one, as already indicated above, is in charge only of cancer-related research, while the latter, also known as clinical, refers to that applied to patients. Thus, medical oncologists are the professionals in charge of caring for cancer patients.
Secondarily, benign tumors are also studied in oncology. This, depending on the area in which it is and the size it has, can be eliminated both with drugs and with surgical interventions. Likewise, neoplasms are studied, those tissues whose cells cannot stop reproducing.
