In the field of medicine, a papule is an eruptive lesion or tumor that occurs on the skin, without the appearance of pus or serosity. This bulge is small in size with an almost rounded shape that protrudes from the level of the skin with a hard consistency. This elevation is caused by an increase in the cells of the dermis, epidermis or even both and is manifested in many dermatological conditions such as lichen planus or urticaria. the term papule originates from the Latin "papula" with the meaning of pustule or button.
Papules are usually classified as: epidermal, which are superficial caused by the increase in cells of the epidermis; there are also the deeper dermals, their cause is due to the infiltration of cells in the dermis; then there are the mixed ones, these are superficial and deep; and finally the follicular papules, due to follicular keratosis. The most common symptoms of this pathology is shown when an elevation appears in the skin with a reddish appearance, which differs from pustules because they do not show a central point, sebaceous discharge, scars, acne.
As for the causes of this disease, it can be caused thanks to the mollusc virus, warts, tumors or eczema; on the other hand it can also be due to puberty since during this there is a large increase in hormones, therefore there is an increase in fat to soften and protect the skin; then the fat clogs the pores which causes these reddish elevations.
Most of the time it is not necessary to use treatment for these lesions since they usually disappear without any complications; but treatment is required if they become more infected than normal.
