Within the ethical context, principles are all those norms by which individuals must abide by. They are universal laws, capable of encompassing any community or culture, some of them are respect for life, respecting others, not exercising violence against others, etc. The ethical principles are affirmations of man, who defend his need to evolve and be happy.
Each person depending on their education and their experience in life, will have their own principles, which will come to light, each time their conscience indicates it. But also, these will be accompanied by the ethical principles established in society and that are shared by all, within it. Eg: the principle of honesty, solidarity, freedom, social justice, equality, among others.
Departing a little from the ethical, it can be said that the principles are laws that must be followed if you want to achieve a purpose. It is associated with the basic postulates that allow the advancement of scientific research or the exercise of an art. For example: "the law of gravity represents a basic principle of physics."
It can be said then that the principle as law, can have different connotations:
As scientific law: they are precepts of nature that are not clearly demonstrable, however they can be measured and quantified, observing the results they originate. Eg: biological laws, laws of physics, statistical laws, etc.
As a moral law: they are all those values that govern and guide the conduct of a specific society. The law establishes a commitment in the conscience of the person belonging to the cultural sphere, where said values are accepted.
As legal law: they are the rules that all regulations must comply with and every court must follow, in order to carry out a correct administration of justice.
