Psychopedagogy is a discipline that aims to analyze human behaviors related to education, learning and career guidance.

It is the science that allows studying the person and their environment in the different stages of learning that cover their lives. Through its own methods, it studies the current problem, visualizing the cognitive, affective and social potentialities for a better and healthier development in the activities carried out by the person. “Psychopedagogy is what allows us to discover hope in the face of learning difficulties. It is the fresh breath for parents and children in the difficult task of growing up.

It should be noted that the work of this branch of psychology is closely related to other specialties, such as learning psychology and evolutionary psychology, among others, and it is also a field that has an important influence on issues such as: special education, curricular design, educational policy, educational therapies, among others.

However, in all the action that psychopedagogy shows, that is, in the implementation of didactic methodologies, it must take into account the diversity presented by the public to which it directs its activity and also the particular needs of the students.

The psychopedagogy professional requires extensive knowledge of cognitive neuroscience and human behavior, modularity of mind and information processing. It also requires a broad knowledge of the different plans, programs, curricular maps in education.

The objectives of psychopedagogy are:

  • Identify learning problems in children, youth and adults.
  • Empower and rehabilitate people with learning disabilities, motivating them through methods that facilitate their learning process.
  • Prevent learning difficulties through the development in people of the cognitive, emotional and social skills that intervene in the knowledge acquisition processes.
  • Identify the real learning possibilities of the individual.
  • Guide teachers and parents in the most convenient way to educate children or young people of school age.

In this sense, we can affirm that the fundamental objective of psychopedagogy is to improve the didactic and pedagogical methods used for the education of people.

Finally, we can highlight the direct action in the classroom that pedagogy can exercise. This is generally known as a tutorial action, and it is very important when resolving conflicts of different types.

In some cases, psychopedagogy is characterized by group work. Among its main tasks is to create values ​​for the group and carry out practices that can serve for a better coexistence among students.
