Segment is each of the parts or divisions that are made of a thing. For example, a market segment is a group of items in it that have similar characteristics. In Geometry, a segment is the part of the line bounded by two points (ends of the segment). It is known as Circular Segment to the surface limited by a curved arc and the chord that underlies it. It also applies to the space limited by a curved surface and an intersection plane; if the surface is the sphere, the segment is called a spherical segment or spherical cap.
In computing, a segment is the part of a routine on a digital computer that is short enough to be completely stored in internal memory, and which contains the code necessary to automatically select and enter other segments of the routine.
The metal ring located on the periphery of the piston that adjusts it to the cylinder is also known as a segment.
Finally, segment is also used to designate the parts that are repeated in some animals of bilateral symmetry.
