Solidarity leads to the sustainable development of peoples, therefore, it is essential that it be used for the benefits it can offer to a certain cause. It will be important to apply this value when a person observes that a loved one, whether they are friends or family, has a problem in which their help or company is a contribution to improve the situation in some way.

Solidarity is so important that it represents the basis of many human values, such as friendship, companionship, loyalty, honor. Solidarity allows people to feel united and, consequently, sentimentally linked to those people who are supported and of course from whom the same is received.

The meaning of solidarity has its origin in a social aspect, etymologically this word comes from the Latin "solidus" and means solidarity, in sociology it is a feeling of unity, whose objective is to achieve a common goal.

It is said that being supportive is worrying about the interests, causes and conflicts of others, providing support or help without any interest in receiving something in return.

Sociological concept of solidarity

In sociology, solidarity is seen as the cohesion between each of the members of a society, with common values ​​and principles. Solidarity intensifies during times of crisis or in times of wars, epidemics or natural disasters in a nation or society. For this reason it does not admit differences such as races, origins, sexes, age, nationalities, regions or any other characteristic that may try to tarnish this beautiful feeling represented in the value of solidarity.

A very important aspect of solidarity is reflected in the economic or material level, when a person, communities or associations decide to be in solidarity and help the most deprived, ensuring that they satisfy at least a part of their needs and needs. Such is the case of the monotheistic religion, including the Jewish and Christian, these play a very important role in the issue of what is solidarity, providing help to those who need it most.

Jewish thinkers established solidarity on three levels, for them the greatest action is to help other people to be independent; then there is the help that is given in a mutual way between people who do not know each other and finally, the help that comes expressly by the person most in need.

It is a fact that material solidarity is linked to economic deficiencies, but it is also important to show solidarity with the rescue of affective values. There are organizations dedicated to helping people with problems of loneliness, illness and sadness, for which all you need is a willingness and desire to do so.

Examples of solidarity

Solidarity is to perform acts aimed at providing monetary assistance inputs or emotional support to individuals, companies or countries most in need, without any interest and without expecting anything in return, just satisfaction to be there at that time or circumstance. Humanitarian aid

It refers to the solidarity of nations towards another that has suffered some type of humanitarian crisis, this aid is impartial, neutral and of operational independence. It is usually done through protected routes to areas without food, medicine, medical attention, or personal protection.

Nonprofit organizations

They are associations that seek to help solve social problems for populations or areas that need it. These organizations are legal in nature, their interest is not profit, and they work thanks to donations from third parties and volunteer work. These organizations use images of solidarity in the promotion of their campaigns.

Fundraising

These are actions that are specifically focused on fundraising for, for example, the purchase of medical equipment for surgical interventions, in this case, medical conferences can be held and funds raised for the construction of health centers. Currently there are companies and organizations oriented only to this type of activity.

Refugee reception

It refers to the solidarity action of a nation, community, society or family, of welcoming and sheltering people who, for political or humanitarian reasons, are at risk in their country and must abandon it for their protection, and even that of their family. International laws or norms grant rights to enjoy residence in foreign countries.

Religious works

These are solidarity groups, formed for evangelization in regions, generally they are preachers who are dedicated to working for the benefit of those most in need. These types of jobs are generally temporary and are linked to religious, medical, construction, etc.

Blood donation

This type of solidarity requires preparation and empathy on the part of the person who executes it, since it can have physical and emotional consequences, but being in solidarity with others is a very valuable human feeling.

Difference between Solidarity and Altruism

The essential difference between these two terms is that altruism is a philosophical expression that refers to the help without interest that an individual can give to another by his own decision, leaving his own interests in the background. Solidarity is a value learned by a great social influence and linked to other feelings such as love, tolerance, respect and equality.
