Psychological violence is any aggression carried out without the intervention of physical contact between people. Is a phenomenon that occurs when one or more people lash out verbally to another or others, causing some kind of harm to level psychological or emotional in mugged people.
This type of violence focuses on the emission of disqualifying and humiliating phrases that seek to devalue another individual. This is one of the reasons why psychological violence is difficult to prove and manifest, this violence is very frequent in certain social contexts: family, school, work, etc.
In the school environment, psychological violence is frequent among students, given their immaturity and low ability to socialize.
In the family environment, this type of violence is usually generated (from parents to children, or between parents). Causing the family relationship to be destroyed.
In the labor field, some situations also arise that give rise to psychological violence; for example when an employee is subjected to verbal abuse in order to make him resign.
Psychology specialists believe that this kind of violence is one of the fiercest forms of violence since it means an attack on the psyche of the person. In this sense, although it is true that a blow can leave visible marks, a verbal aggression can hurt much more deeply in the reason or judgment of that person.
The psychological abuser can be a man or a woman, with the following characteristics:
They are controlling individuals with a low level of self-esteem, which wants to increase, decreasing that of the person they attack.
Little ability to manage their own emotions.
Generally, they tend to be kind to most people, except for their victim.
They may present psychopathic characteristics (little compassion for others) and may even have overvalued beliefs.
In certain cases, they themselves have suffered from psychological violence, although the fact that they have been psychologically abused does not justify their becoming an abuser.
His behavior towards the victim is characterized by the use of all kinds of threats (suicide, abandonment, etc.), yelling, bad gestures, he has unexpected changes in behavior, among others.
