The term cupola derives from the Italian "cupola" and this from the Latin "cupula", which is the diminutive of "cupa" which means "cup". The word has a high use in the architectural field which refers to a dome or roof that has a characteristic shape of a half sphere or approximately hemispherical, which usually covers a building or part of it, its main function is to cover a certain space, which can be central, circular or polygonal. In other words, it is an architectural type element, which is also known as a “dome”, used in order to cover a certain space circular, elliptical, square or polygonal by means of semicircular, ovoidal or parabolic arches.
Then it can be said that the surface of a dome can admit different shapes according to the construction method and formal traditions, alternating depending on the plant shape and the profile according to the conic used. Lifting continuous courses of masonry is one of the simplest construction methods when erecting these domes, progressively obstructing towards the center.
This is an archaic system, which makes it possible to cover smaller diameter extensions. Sometimes the arrangement of the masonry adopts a spiral pattern, such is the case of the Eskimos when it comes to building their igloos.
On the other hand, leadership is also attributed to that certain number of people, qualified as leaders of a given organization; and generally those who make up the leadership are the bosses or leaders, who are the individuals with the ability to decide what is most convenient for the organization.
Finally, the word is used to designate the title in Spanish of one of the works of the American writer Stephen King, which is called “Under the dome”, but the equivalent in our language is “La cupola”, published in the year 2009.
