It is the most prestigious and important event with regard to the different sports disciplines and has more than two hundred nations participating in the different competitions, the Olympic games are inspired by the ancient games organized by the Greeks in the city of Olympia in the 18th century BC
In ancient times, according to some stories of Greek mythology, it was believed that the games arose in honor of the god Zeus since at the time of his birth four brothers ran to Olympus to entertain Zeus and the first to arrive (Heracles Idio) was crowned with a wreath of olive leaves and that it was from there that this celebration began every four years. It is believed that the beginning of the competitions took place during the year 776 BC this thanks to some inscriptions discovered in the city of Olympia where the names of winners of some kind of races that were held every 4 years, during the beginning of the celebration rituals were performed in honor of Zeus.
The current games were derived from a series of attempts to emulate the ancient competition, an example of this was the so-called Cotswold Olympic Games held in England and were organized by Robert Dover in the year 1612. But it was not until the revolution in Greece that they were proposed the idea of reestablishing the ancient games again, an idea proposed by the writer Panagiotis Soutsos, in the year 1856 and with the financing of a Greek philanthropist (Zappas Gospels) the first modern Olympic games were held in a square in Athens where competitors of Greek and Ottoman origin participated. In 1880 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded by Pierre de Coubertin with the idea that the games would be heldinternational level. After these events, in 1896, the first games led by the Olympic committee took place, which were highly successful.
Over time the event has undergone a number of changes, in 1900 he joined the woman as a competitor for the first time in competition. By 1904, around 650 athletes participated, while more than 10,000 athletes participated in the games held in London in 2012.
