Restrictive software, also known as proprietary software, software that is not free or the equivalent in English "nonfre software", is that software that is prohibited from free use, modification, distribution or that also asks for permission to be requested for these actions; It is software that has numerous restrictions to be used freely. The word restrictive software originated to refer to the antonym of the free software concept; Therefore, in different areas, political implications related to this have been granted.
Any company, foundation, corporation or other type of organizations related to restrictive software, having the copyright on a certain software, has the ability to control, monitor and restrict each of the rights of users on its product, that unlike free software which generally means that each user will only have the right to run a given software if it meets certain conditions and requirements demanded by the provider of this service, which would imply the restriction of one or more of the four freedoms.
As for the history of restrictive software, it began to emerge from the 60's when laboratories like Bell, which are technological and scientific research centers that are located in more than ten countries, belonging to an American company called Lucent Technologies; they supplied the source code of their operating system called UNIX 1, to later exist those known as closed source software. But it is important to mention that at the beginning of the computer age, scientific groups used to give their code to third parties without the need for a payment in return and this was common, since there was no policy that regulated the use of these.
