An occupational accident is defined as all those injuries that a person suffers as a result of or on the occasion of their work and that it causes disability injuries or even death. These accidents can occur in various environments, or activities such as union activities, occupational training or the development of any activity within the work environment. In addition, it is important to note that accidents at work can include accidents that occur on the way to or from the place of work or work.

Taking all that has been said above, it is important to be clear about the situations that are considered as work accidents, the most frequent are described below:

  • Accidents known as in itinere are those that occur at the time the employee goes to or returns from their workplace.
  • Mission accidents, are those suffered by the worker during the journey in which he moved, by order of his employer or immediate boss, from the workplace to the place he has been ordered to go.
  • Accidents suffered by union delegates when they are exercising this function, either in the place where they develop it or going to or leaving it.
  • Diseases that were had but that with the passage of time and as a result of the work that is done, have worsened in a significant way.
  • Accidents that occur by properly performing the tasks assigned to the job.
  • Diseases that have been acquired and that originate exclusively as a result of work.

They must also be considered as an occupational accident, all those physical or psychological damages suffered by the employee of a certain company, entities or establishment that are caused by criminal reasons, such as theft.

The first thing to do if you suffer from an accident at work is to inform your employer so that he or she can refer you immediately, to the care center of the corresponding administrative body, for prompt attention.

If it is the case that the employer does not comply with the obligation or if the circumstances of the case do not allow the employer to become aware, the worker may resort to the assistance center by his own means and must be treated immediately.
